Building a style guide from the ground up: lessons learned from a lone writer

Description

About a year ago, I joined a team that used the Google Developer Documentation Style Guide (GDDSG) for our documentation. While it met our needs for the most part, I realized that we needed a style guide customized for our product and brand. So, I set out to create a style guide just for us—as a complement to the GDDSG.

But creating a style guide is no easy task. It’s even harder when you’re a one-person documentation team and have no prior experience creating style guides. In this talk, I’ll share lessons learned from my experiences building a style guide as a lone writer, mistakes to avoid, and practical tips for anyone who wants to build a style guide from scratch.
